Bio

Lionel Scharly

​Architectural and Industrial Designer, Graduated 'with honors' in Fine Arts / Art Deco on Design+Architecture and Post-Graduated in 2000 with an Advanced Master 'with honors' in Computational Design & Architecture / Multimedia-Hypermedia by the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
He also obtains a degree of Harvard Graduated School of Design in Architectural Criticism and History, and certified by Princeton University in The Art of Structural Engineering, and by the MIT in Site Planning.

After several years working as Art Director and International Design Manager for big corporations in Europe, designing retail projects for DIOR, PEUGEOT, COCA-COLA, MICHELIN, ESTEE LAUDER, AIR FRANCE and for the Video Game Industry, Lionel founded 
SCHARLY DESIGNER STUDIO® in 2007.

During a decade he was an Adjunct Lecturer and Professor of a University in Paris / France. President of the Jury for Post-Graduation in Paris or directing thesis at MIT 'Massachusetts Institute of Technology'.
Today he is also a peer reviewer for the AIA Convention in United States or Lecturer in Architecture for The School of the Art Institute of Chicago 'SAIC'.

His public architecture, commercial, cultural, retail and residential projects focus heavily on the integration of the environment for Climate Change and by implementing groundbreaking technologies like BIM, and to develop new communities to create social innovation in the neighborhoods.  

He has been exhibited at the French Pavilion at the World’s Fair in 2010 in Shanghai "Better City, Better Life" and featured in 'Nouvelles Richesses / French Pavillon' during the 15th Biennale of Architecture of Venice for his Green Designs and Innovations.
He was also exhibit at the Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, MoMa Shanghai, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin or Art + Design Galleries in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Lionel has also collaborated on architectural projects with Matali Crasset, or with the Pritzker Price Shigeru Ban.

He writes architectural and design criticisms for magazines like Forbes, The Spruce, Real Homes, Apartment Therapy or for Innovation & B2B newspapers like DELL Technologies for the Home 3D Printing Industry or MarketScale for the 2022 Soccer World Cup Stadiums in Qatar.
He has EB-1 Green Card Extraordinary Ability in Design + Architecture, which is a recognition of his exceptional design innovation, architecture, high tech, design management, and project management skills that set him apart in his field.
